Abstract

Steve Conway and Fred Steward have produced a text book on the management and shaping of innovation converting years of experience of teaching on the MBA and undergraduate management programmes at Aston Business School in Birmingham in the mid-1990s. The textbook builds innovation theory by defining key themes, and concepts and definitions in a focused and empirically grounded and appreciated manner. Wide ranging and clear case studies and examples in text banking and NHS direct showing the new services have been given and in order to distinguish discovery, invention, design, innovation, diffusion and change. They explain and distinguish different innovation outputs and assess with lucid examples what novelty and radical innovations are. They describe innovation as an iterative process from innovation to re-innovation and identify what the sources and origins of innovation are, and how knowledge in the innovation process works. They elaborate the different perspectives on innovation.
