Abstract

Wangari Muta Maathai, Kenyan biologist, Nobel Peace Prize laureate (2004), and founder of the Green Belt Movement (1977), presents a diagnosis of the African situation in her famed candid voice. Informed by her own experience over decades as a Kenyan, a woman, an environmental activist, and eventually as a politician and an internationally recognized figure, Professor Maathai transects space and time, sector and sphere to chart a complex course of how Africa has come to being where it is based on a series of fundamental analyses. She weaves into this her own vision and prescription for how Africa can still come into her own.
