Abstract

This paper examines the impact of the Nigerian policy on information and communication technology (ICT) on printing and publishing industry. The data are obtained from a survey of the industry and three case studies carried out in 2009. The findings show that 68% of the respondents are aware of the existence of the ICT policy, but some of them are ignorant of its contents. The ICT policy had impacted at least 40% of the respondents in a positive manner, such as improvement in market for products, introduction of new or improved products, adoption of new equipment / machines, made investment in ICTs less expensive, and stimulation of more investment in ICTs. This not withstanding, the case study illustrations suggest that the ICT policy impact is still not deep, and firm expectations in the printing and publishing industry are still far from being met. It would therefore be necessary to further strengthen the implementation of the ICT policy in the Nigerian printing and publishing industry.
