Abstract

Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural and human resources - the basic ingredients required by any nation to reach the pinnacle of industrial development. The nation's abundant fossil fuel resource, and in particular natural gas, is a double blessing being both energy source and raw material for chemical industry. Novel industrial technologies have been, and are still being, developed for processing natural gas into cleanest fossil-based fuel and invaluable products that could further be processed into much needed clean fuels and base and intermediate chemicals for chemical industry. Thus with abundant natural gas resource, the nation could exploit these technologies and fuel her future industrial development. However, for meaningful and sustainable development, the technology needs to be indigenous and thus industry-academia cooperation in research and development should be well established with full support of the government.
