Last month, the Finance Minister of India, P. Chidambaram while honoring two Indian scientists, Prof. K. S. Valdiya and Prof. A. K. Sood, publically declined and denounced all the attempts which help portray 'jugaad' as innovation. According to him, "jugaad is a corrupt way of looking at innovations ... jugaad is not innovation". From the speech, it was easy to guess that Chidambaram was probably contrasting his views with that of the recently released book , by three America based Indian authors, Simone Ahuja, Navi Radjou and Jaideep Prabhu, who attempted to celebrate 'jugaad innovations' - the so called, Indian way of ingenuity and creativity. Chidambaram, the current Finance Minister of India in his speech said that India could take the leadership position in the world in future only by evolving into a knowledge based society and by finding "systematic innovative" solutions to technological challenges.
