Abstract

From the title of the book, , one can effortlessly assume that Edmund Phelps, 2006 Nobel Laureate in Economics, aspires to demonstrate his new thesis that grassroots innovations played a very significant role for mass flourishing in earlier times. The central argument of the book is that homegrown innovations helped create jobs, dynamism and vitality within the economy, and eventually became the main source for the nation's prosperity and inequality.
