In 'The Fragmented Politics of Urban Preservation' the author, Yue Zhang, explores the politics of urban preservation through the comparison of Beijing, Chicago and Paris, from 1980 to the present. Yue Zhang is an assistant professor of political science at the University of Illinois in Chicago. This book was her first publication; it was received with positive reviews due to the nature of Zhang's approach in the field of politics and urban preservation. A number of books have been written to illustrate political fragmentation, especially within countries that have experienced civil wars such as Iraq, Libya and Côte D'Ivore. These books focus mainly on the difficulties of rebuilding the central and local authorities after central government had been removed. However in this book, Zhang highlights political fragmentation as a principal reason that has slowed and/or stagnated the process of urban preservation in countries whose governments are well in control.
