n African Journal of Rhetoric - Silences in AIDS-related conversations

Volume 2, Issue 1
  • ISSN : 1998-2054

The paper sets out to explore HIV and AIDS topics that rarely are discussed in the press or in conversational spaces over the last twenty years. This paper analyses currently available data, which were nonexistent before the mass roll-out of ARV drugs in all SADC countries, on the lack of rigorous public and political engagement for the need for home-based care. The present reluctance of people to disclose their own HIV status is discussed within the context of the high prevalence rate and the need for others to know the status of family and friends.
