Abstract

Ryegrass growth rates increase substantially during spring, resulting in large surpluses of pasture. Making ryegrass silage through wrapping bales or ensiling the grass in pits, minimises waste. However, to justify the costs of cutting, baling, wrapping and carting grass silage, the key lies in making high quality silage that cows will milk off.
