Aflatoxins in food products have become a global concern as it can cause severe adverse affects in the health of humans as well as animals. Aflatoxins are mycotoxins produced by certain moulds. Aflatoxin M1 is the mycotoxin found in milk and is converted normally from aflatoxin B1 in feed. The level of mycotoxins in food is regulated according to legislation by the Department of Health at a maximum residue level (MRL) of 0,5 μg/litre (0,5 ppm).
