Odour and colour are often all that is needed to identify poor silage, but by evaluating the pH, dry matter and fermentation acid profile, it is possible to evaluate how damaged the silage is and to identify the possible causes. Information about the silage's fermentation can help to determine what went wrong, and will aid troubleshooting intake or milk production problems.
