Abstract

Genetic markers are patterns in DNA associated with particular characteristics or traits. This process of using genetic markers to make breeding decisions, is known as genomic selection. Genomic selection provides reliable information, at a young age, on potential breeding animals. This enables more accurate selection of animals and leads to faster genetic progress.
