A biotic environmental factors have an important influence on productivity of dairy cows. These factors are air temperature, humidity, solar radiation and wind. The impact of hot environments can be severe, particularly for high-producing dairy cattle. Meteorological maps of South Africa and Namibia indicate areas of heat stress according to the temperature-humidity index (THI) or heat stress values.
