Milk production during July 2009 was 5,1% less than during July 2008. Production during the first seven months was 4,3% less than during the same period in 2008. Less dairy products were imported during January to June 2009 than during January to June 2008 (-47%). Exports increased by 30% compared to the same period in 2008. Producer prices are still at a lower level than during the same month in 2008. The department of agriculture's farm requisite price index for January is 27% higher than during Janaury 2008. Since October 2008, farm requisite prices have increased by 8,2%, or 37% on an annualised basis. (Dairy digits are compiled by the MPO with financial support from Milk SA.
