Abstract

Keeping teat and udder skin healthy is an important part of mastitis prevention. Deteriorating teat skin condition may negatively influence udder health and milk quality. Most of the bacteria causing mastitis in dairy cows, enter the udder through the teat canal. Whenever there are lesions on the teats or udder skin, there is a high concentration of bacteria close to the teat canal which increases the risk of a new udder infection.
