In the management of a cattle herd, it is important to plan the timing of calving. Since cattle are fertile for the entire year, the period of time when offspring are born, can be manipulated. To plan the timing of breeding and consequently the timing of birth, the producer must pay particular attention to the oestrus cycle and learn to identify when animals are displaying signs of oestrus.
