Abstract

A University of Arizona study showed that feeding 4 of colostrum increased subsequent milk production when compared to feeding 2 .

The trial used Brown Swiss calves to study colostrum feeding and subsequent milk production. The calves were randomly assigned to be fed either 2 or 4 after colostrum. Only good quality colostrum was used. All calves received colostrum within one hour after birth and were offered a second feeding about 12 hours after the first.
