Abstract

In early August 2013, a New Zealand dairy company announced that a whey protein concentrate produced for infant formula, beverages and animal feed was potentially contaminated with (), leading to recalls of infant formula products. Although there have been no reports of any public health issues from this incident, it has raised the level of concern for the safety of these products with respect to . The International Commission on the Microbiological Specifications for Foods (ICMSF) has received a number of enquiries from industry and regulatory authorities to provide advice on the appropriateness of testing for in these products. In response to these enquiries, the ICMSF has prepared a document which can be downloaded from www.icmsf.org.
