Abstract

It is not easy to provide children with a healthy diet consisting of all the essential nutrients. According to the Consumer Education Project of Milk SA, three servings of dairy a day make a meaningful contribution to the diet by providing essential vitamins and protein, as well as calcium and other minerals needed daily to achieve good health. At no time in a child's life is calcium more important than during the growth phase. Calcium storage in the skeleton reaches a peak around 12 and 14 years for girls and boys, respectively. The demand for on-the-go dairy products is growing because it provides a convenient solution to a family who is health conscious.
