A philosopher, Heraclitus of Ephesus, once said life is flux, meaning all things change. I think we all agree that in a dynamic business environment, such as the dairy industry, change is almost the only constant. To be successful, we need to be fully aware of the forces that stimulate development or change growth within the systems or processes on a dairy farm. In everything we do, we need to consider the long-term viability of our actions and how these contribute to our success. Lessons learnt from so-called living companies - companies that start as small, one-man enterprises and are still in business after 200 years - should become part of our approach in the short, medium and long term. We therefore need to embrace the dynamic changes, whether on the political, economic, social, technological, legal or environmental front.
