Sainfoin () is a tannin-containing legume. Therefore, it has potential from a nutritional point of view as some of its protein has bypass characteristics. From a health point of view the tannins will prevent bloat when sainfoin is grazed and reduce nematode larval attachment. These benefits, among others, should improve nitrogen utilisation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
