Abstract

Fodder radish, often called Japanese radish ( var ) is commonly used as a winter feed, mainly in the eastern parts of South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape). In other parts of the world it is mostly known as a cover crop. Forage brassicas refer to kale, also known as Chou-Moellier ( var ), forage rape (), swedes ( var ) and turnips ( var ). To optimise the use of these fodder crops, it is important to know when to plant them to achieve the best yield for a specific purpose.
