According to the SmartAgri Status Quo Review, the South African climate is undergoing gradual and steady changes; the estimated moderate to high increase in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 may result in a rise in annual temperatures of 1,5 to 3°C. High temperatures, direct and indirect solar radiation and humidity are a critical current concern during South African summers, as affected by the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
