Abstract

South African Working on Fire teams recently sang and danced their way into the hearts of Canadians and, despite the subsequent wage issues, added real value in the fight against runaway bush fires in that country. When asked why they danced in spite of their wage woes, their reply was simple: "We sing when we are happy, sad, working, tired and when we rest". Fire poses a major and often overlooked safety risk to farmers, but if you have the proper precautions in place you too might be dancing when the fires rise.
