Abstract

Beef producers need to produce an optimal number of weaners with the optimum weight at the minimum cost per breeding animal to ensure profitability. Weaners need to be marketed at the optimum weight and the best possible price after being weaned. To achieve this as efficiently as possible, the fertility of the cow herd is of the utmost importance, as well as the growth potential of calves from birth to weaning. Accurate recordkeeping forms the basis of good reproductive management of a cow herd and enables the producer to achieve these objectives.
