Abstract

African Horsesickness (AHS) is a highly fatal, but non-contagious viral disease of equine animals caused by an orbivirus of which there are nine serotypes, all transmitted by midges. The disease is associated with an impaired circulatory function resulting in extensive oedema involving the lungs, intermuscular as well as subcutaneous tissues.
