Abstract

Knowledge of the distribution of poisonous plants is important, especially when relocating livestock. This is necessary because animals learn to avoid poisonous plants in the areas where they grow up. As a result of this acquired aversion, poisoning usually occurs only in naive animals, newly introduced from non-infested veld. A stockman wishing to move livestock should therefore be mindful about plant poisoning.
