Abstract

The Bushman languages are characterised by clicks or suction consonants. Six distinct clicks have been identified in these languages, but five is the most that occur in any one language (Traill 1978: 137). An understanding of the way in which clicks are pronounced and what they sound like will facilitate a comparison with the sounds and means of production of Zulu equivalents.
