Abstract

Civil war has raged in Sudan for more than thirty years, starting in 1955, a year before its independence. The country enjoyed relative peace between 1973 and 1983. The present war, which began in 1983, has had far-reaching effects on the lives of the people and their social, political and economic environment. The civil war has affected men and women in Sudan differently.
