Abstract

Human rights are rights accorded to all people simply because they are people. They are rights which are believed to be essential for the enjoyment of life. These rights are supposed to be guaranteed to everyone, regardless of gender, nationality, age, race or any other distinguishing characteristic. It is hoped that by declaring that human beings have rights, all aspects of human life can be improved. When speaking about human rights, minimum standards for adequate living are identified, and measures to guarantee these standards are implemented. Human rights are generally divided into two broad categories. The first subdivision is referred to as first generation rights, or political and civil rights.
