Abstract

The notion that there will be wars over water in the future is a pernicious one, despite the obvious fact that there is no world shortage of water. Water is, after all, not just an widely distributed resource; it is also a renewable one. While there may be a shortage of financial resources required to transport water to where it is needed or to purify the ubiquitous reserves of saline or brackish waters of the oceans, inland lakes and underground sources - water is generally available. It is, therefore, important to unpack the idea of 'water wars' and, where appropriate, replace it with more obvious and appropriate paradigms.
