Abstract

As at 1 June 2002, of the 22 million people around the globe of concern to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), six million were in Africa and three million of those were refugees. Asylum, for some refugees, has lasted many years. Thousands of children are born in refugee camps. One example, are the children of Angolan refugees who fled their country since 1976. The majority of these refugee children only know about Angola through history or geography books.
