Abstract

Africa's Great Lakes region includes countries surrounding Lake Kivu, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Victoria. It has one of the most breath taking panoramas in the world and is truly blessed with natural surroundings that are unmatched in any other part of the world. The region is also home to some of the largest deposits of precious minerals. The fertile soil and the excellent climate make this region the bread-basket of the world. By all accounts this should be a thriving region yet it is not. Recent developments with regard to peace and stability do however offer some hope.
