Abstract

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are people who have been forced to flee their homes, but who have not reached a neighbouring country and therefore, unlike refugees, are not protected by international law or eligible to receive many types of aid. As the nature of war has changed in the last few decades, with more and more internal conflicts replacing inter-state wars, the number of IDPs has increased significantly and they are now the second largest group of concern to UNHCR.
