Abstract

In the two months of October and November in 2005, Liberia scored a remarkable point in its struggle for sustainable peace, democracy and development. Hitherto ravaged by war, this West African country conducted a multi-party election that ushered in a democratically elected government led by Ms Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. This feat, no doubt, represents a quantum leap in Africa's democratisation for a number of reasons.
