Abstract

Chad is a landlocked country in Central Africa sharing borders with Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Libya, Niger, Nigeria, and Sudan. Chad's climate ranges from dry in the north to tropical in the south. With an area of 1.3 million square kilometres, it is the fifth largest country on the continent. The country's landscape is very diverse, ranging from desert in the north to arid plains in the central areas (but only less than three percent of land is arable), mountains in the north-west and lowlands in the south.
