Abstract

Inaugurated on March 18, 2004, the PAP's vision is to 'provide a common platform for African peoples to fully participate in the decision-making processes for the political and socio-economic development and integration of the continent, particularly through the harmonisation and coordination of the policies and laws made at national and regional levels and by promoting a sense of unity and common destiny among the peoples of Africa.' At present, the PAP is made up of five parliamentarians from each of the 46 national parliaments of the African Union (AU). Its ultimate aim is to evolve into an institution with full legislative powers, whose members are elected by universal adult suffrage.
