Abstract

It has long been widely recognised that "cooperation and coordination between the military and humanitarian components are critical in multidimensional peacekeeping operations". While the stress on issues of civil-military coordination (CIMIC) has largely been regarding peacekeeping and humanitarian organisations, less attention has gone to the role of the military in fostering peacebuilding; moreover, the role of CIMIC across the spectrum of peace support operations and enabling the transition from peacekeeping to peacebuilding.
