Abstract

Most university economics departments endorse mainstream or 'orthodox' contemporary economics theory based on a neo-classical approach. Other models, grouped together, are considered 'heterodox' and not taught. In 2000, economics students in Paris circulated a petition calling for the transformation of their curriculum. A year later, students at Cambridge University (UK) submitted their own petition, followed by Harvard University (US) in 2003. These actions culminated in an international gathering of 'pluralist' economists and students in Kansas City.
