Abstract

Expatriates working in South Africa will now be taxed on the free accommodation supplied by their employers. This is the consequence of new regulations that became legislation earlier this year. While this might, at first sight, appear harsh, the positive spin off was that the new legislation has provided a great deal more certainty for all involved. Up until now, SARS practice rules were not actually law and could be changed at will.
