Extracted from text ... By Tom Hohendorff The housing shortage in South Africa has moved beyond a crisis point, with an estimated 7.5 million people in need of adequate housing. In the low-income market - around 2 million people earning between R1 500 and R7 000 per month - there is an estimated shortage of 625 000 houses, expected to rise to 747 000 by 2010. While South African banks do appear to have some degree of commitment to finding a solution, and areactively engaging amongst themselves and with government on ways to share the risk associated with home loans for low income earners, ..
