Abstract

The new Companies Act recently signed into law introduces sweeping changes to the manner in which organisations in South Africa are administered and managed. Broadly speaking, for company directors, senior managers and those tasked with the financial control of the company, it is no longer 'business as usual'. That's because the changes are so fundamental that a good deal of what many business people took for granted as common knowledge, either no longer applies or has changed substantially. However, with transparency among the key intentions of the Companies Act, its introduction should come as good news for the practising Professional Accountant (SA) - and, indeed, for South African businesses in general.
