Abstract

Good analysis grounded in a thorough understanding of a subject takes the panic out of current events. Media headlines scream of crises and describe the immediate toll in lives lost and destruction wrought. However, the forest of wider meaning cannot be discerned through the smoke of all the flaming trees. There is a reason why journalism is referred to as the first page of history. The media in its daily coverage of events provides the facts, the raw material on which true understanding is built.
