Abstract

Hot wars are either a thing of the past or an extremely remote possibility between developed-world countries, which are tied by alliances or have their animosities kept at bay through nuclear-assured destruction. Conflict in the West has become characterised by asymmetric warfare, as terrorism is sometimes defined.
