Abstract

In the volatile West African region, stability is a relative term when it comes to nations. Despite immense internal political challenges, Cameroon continues to be viewed by many in the region as one of the more politically stable countries in central Africa. Certainly the presidency is stable, having been occupied for over 30 years by Paul Biya, who even on a continent whose leadership is populated by long-serving 'Big Men' has enjoyed considerable longevity in office.
