Abstract

The challenge to Africa's growth potential lies in unlocking sufficient private risk capital to bolster robust economic growth on the continent. Although private capital flows into Africa point to an increasing investment trend, investment size and penetration are still low in Africa, compared to the rest of the world. In Africa's favour are the current commodity-driven growth rates, which may deepen investor confidence for increased risk capital commitments. With the Euro-zone economies slowly recovering from recession and the United States (US) economy picking up, Africa must leverage its reputation as the second fastest growing economic region in the world to lure private capital to boost economic growth.
