Abstract

Viral diseases or epidemics are not typically considered a topic for conflict and security analysis, but a recent and severe outbreak of the Ebola virus in parts of West Africa raises several parallel points of discussion relating to regional security and cooperation. Moreover, the outbreak itself threatens to disrupt and destabilise regional trade and travel.
