Abstract

Stable governance that has kept conflict at bay in this small but strategically placed country on the Horn of Africa - strategic both in geographic position militarily and on sea routes. Djibouti's positioning ensures business opportunities in the trans-shipment of goods into and out of the East Africa region and servicing the US military presence stationed in Djibouti. While data on ease of doing business is unavailable for the country of 820,000 people, the majority of whom are of Somali origin, governance performance indicators show a country with an ineffectual and difficult bureaucracy and poor rule of law compliance.
