Abstract

Following an increase in Libyan unrest in July 2014, Islamist militias have gained significant ground against secular forces. Collaboration between the Libyan Islamists and the Islamic State (IS) will likely motivate intervention into Libya by the US-led anti-IS coalition, which includes neighbouring Egypt.
