Abstract

Burkina Faso's interim government is facing growing friction from agitators within the elite Regiment of Presidential Security who oppose perceived efforts to limit their power and influence. The interim prime minister, himself a former commander of the RPS, is at the centre of apparent factional tensions within the military. Such tensions add to the already delicate situation in Burkina Faso as the interim government attempts to nurse the country to elections in November.
